# School Board Meeting: Thursday, October 29, 2026

The Chesapeake Public Schools Board meeting on October 29, 2026 included an initial presentation of the superintendent’s proposed 2027–2037 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), a long-range plan for projects costing at least $100,000. The proposed five-year request for 2027–2032 totals $616.165 million, including approximately $232 million for major mechanical and maintenance work and $282.7 million for modernizations, replacements, additions, and new schools. Major priorities include replacing the Chesapeake Career Center and Carver Intermediate School; the city’s current capital improvement program includes $101.5 million for the Career Center and $84 million for Carver. Design work for the Career Center replacement has begun under a contract with RRMM Architects. The plan was presented for review, with two further work sessions planned before the board considers final action; it is not itself an authorized budget. Board members requested more detailed analysis of enrollment and housing growth and stakeholder feedback on Carver’s future location.

The board also reviewed July–August FY2027 finances: revenue receipts totaled $73.5 million, and preliminary enrollment was 486 students below budget assumptions, potentially reducing state revenue by about $4.3 million if confirmed. Staff flagged higher electricity and fuel costs while noting spending remained within or near budget expectations. The board unanimously approved revising the 2026–2027 academic calendar to make November 25 a full day off for students and employees. No procurement action or contract award was voted on, and the closed session resulted in no action items.
