# Springfield School Committee 10/28/2026 Student Parent Concerns Subcommittee Meeting

The Springfield School Committee Student Parent Concerns Subcommittee met on October 28, 2026, to hear a presentation on Springfield Public Schools’ new food-service partnership with Chartwells/Homegrown Springfield. The vendor was selected through a food-service RFP in May, and the partnership began July 1; no contract award or procurement vote was taken at this meeting. Presenters described meal service for more than 20,000 students at over 60 locations, staffing and training, nutrition standards, and an estimated federal reimbursement of about $4.90 per meal served.

Chartwells also discussed local food purchasing, including ingredients from a Hadley farm and partnerships with regional suppliers, and a paid 12-week culinary pre-apprenticeship for students—an initiative included in its RFP proposal. Committee members voiced support for the partnership and its meal quality and community employment. The only vote was to adjourn; no new spending authorization or purchasing action was identified.
