# Switzerland Shortlists Air Defense Systems

Switzerland has shortlisted Israel Aerospace Industries’ Barak MX and Eurosam’s SAMP/T NG for a second long-range air-defense system, while continuing with its delayed Patriot purchase. The second-system competition is tied to a proposed allocation of 6 billion Swiss francs. Parliament is expected to consider broader defense and security funding during its winter session, with funding decisions anticipated in early 2027; procurement steps for the new system depend on the evaluation and funding decisions being completed.

- Israel Aerospace Industries and Eurosam are the shortlisted bidders; MBDA and Thales are Eurosam joint-venture members and SAMP/T NG developers.
- The proposed funding decision creates a significant but not-yet-awarded opportunity. Bidders and prospective suppliers should account for the ongoing evaluation and parliamentary funding process in their pursuit and delivery planning.
- Switzerland is maintaining its Patriot purchase despite delayed delivery. Contractors supporting air-defense procurement should distinguish this existing acquisition from the separate competition for a second system.
- The proposed 24 billion Swiss franc defense and security spending package is scheduled for parliamentary review in the winter session, with a funding decision expected in early 2027.
