The Blount County Zoning Review Task Force held its organizational meeting on October 29, 2026. Members elected Nick Bright as chair and Jessica Hanna as vice chair, approved the agenda, and discussed reviewing the county’s zoning districts, regulations, and urban growth boundary. Public comment and members raised concerns about growth outpacing roads, sewer and utility capacity, flooding, traffic, and the need to modernize zoning rules while supporting sustainable development. Members requested copies of the zoning regulations and an urban growth boundary map; the chair also agreed to seek planning staff support for the task force’s work.

The task force approved a motion to establish its purpose, scope, responsibilities, expected outcomes, priorities, and work plan. It then approved an amendment requiring recommendations for zoning changes from the task force to go first to the Planning Commission. The next meeting was set for November 9 at 6:00 p.m. No procurement activity, contract awards, or spending decisions were identified.
