# BCSS Work Session 10/27/2026

The Barrow County School System Board of Education work session, held October 27, 2026, reviewed several spending and capital-project items for consideration at the November 3 meeting. The superintendent recommended purchasing five additional weapons-detection units, batteries, chargers, and stabilizing plates from A3 Communications for $117,686.30, using state safety-grant funds. The board also received an update on the BASSA athletic complex: Paris Construction Group is the previously selected construction manager, more than 200 subcontractor bids covering 41 scopes had been received, and the guaranteed maximum price was still being finalized. A price was expected later in the week for board review before the next meeting; construction was anticipated to begin in November, with completion expected in fall 2028.

The superintendent also recommended increasing the transportation fuel budget by $600,000 from the general fund, bringing it to approximately $1.817 million, to address projected costs and maintain bus service. Other items presented for upcoming consideration included a revised student calendar and the 2028–29 calendar. No procurement-related award or spending vote was taken during this work session; the weapons-detection purchase, fuel-budget increase, and athletic-complex price were pending further board consideration.
