# Historic District Commission Meeting: Oct 28, 2026

The Gaithersburg Historic District Commission meeting on October 28, 2026, approved its March 25, April 29, and May 27 minutes, with amendments to the March and April minutes. Staff presented the draft land use element of the city’s master plan update, focusing on Oldtown. The draft proposes guidance for land use, building heights and design, housing and commercial uses, pedestrian connections, gateways, and use of city-owned properties. Commissioners and a public commenter offered feedback on historic-building reuse, the Father McCue Bridge, historic-tourism signage, vegetation, building heights, and utility and easement planning; staff said some suggestions could be considered during the ongoing draft review. No contracts, purchases, procurement approvals, or spending actions were identified.

The draft is in a 60-day public comment period ending December 7, 2026, with a joint public hearing scheduled for January 4, 2027, and anticipated adoption in March 2027. Staff noted that proposed zoning changes would require a separate comprehensive rezoning process. The commission also received updates that the Summit Hall Farm national historic designation application had been revised following National Park Service feedback, and that Ascension Chapel’s local designation was tentatively scheduled for a December 7 City Council meeting. A separate permit submission is still pending for work on the Parks and Brooks apartment building.
