# 10 Montville Township Board of Education Meeting October 27 2026

The Montville Township Board of Education meeting on October 27, 2026, included approval of a contract to resume work on Hilldale Elementary School’s facade and vestibule project. The board approved Capital Works LLC as the contractor, subject to receipt and approval of the signed contract, insurance information, performance and payment bonds, and other required documents; the district’s attorney was continuing its review. The administration said the contractor had surveyed the site and was preparing to restart work, with a construction timeline to be shared after the required documentation was finalized. A Hilldale parent urged the board to provide firm milestones and dates and raised concerns about school security while construction remains unfinished. The board also discussed having its security committee meet to review options; no specific security purchase was approved in the transcript.

The board reviewed preliminary plans for a facilities referendum expected to seek approximately $35–36 million for district capital improvements, including replacement of aging building systems. The final project costs and ballot questions were scheduled for board consideration on November 17, ahead of a January 26, 2027 special election. Discussion covered the potential use of one or two ballot questions, election hours and costs, bond-sale timing, and projected tax impacts; estimates used a 4.75% borrowing rate and assumed 34% debt-service aid, with approximate annual impacts of $193 for question one and $25 for question two on a home assessed at $542,000. The transcript does not clearly establish the final ballot structure. The board also received the state-mandated student performance report; no related procurement action was identified.
