# October 28, 2026 BCC Regular Meeting

The Sussex County Board of County Commissioners’ regular meeting on October 28, 2026, included an update from the new county prosecutor on law enforcement operations and public safety funding. The prosecutor reported $3.7 million in federal grant funding secured for county public safety initiatives, including $300,000 for a prosecutor’s-office radio system with interoperability capabilities, $100,000 for the Sussex County Rescue Task Force, and $200,000 for the Sheriff’s Office to migrate municipal dispatching to the state’s upgraded encrypted communications system. These were reported as funded initiatives; the board did not approve a related contract or purchase at this meeting. The prosecutor also said $477,135 in seized cash, along with a forfeited luxury SUV, would be distributed among the prosecutor’s forfeiture fund, Sparta Township Police Department, and, in a smaller share, the State Police.

During approval of the agenda, the board voted to remove Resolution L, which would have authorized an application to subdivide county jail property in Newton; a commissioner cited uncertainty about the jail’s future. The board also approved entering executive session to discuss litigation, negotiations, attorney-client matters, and personnel. Other business included proclamations honoring veterans and recognizing October as Epidermolysis Bullosa Awareness Month. No contract awards or procurement approvals were identified.
