# Board of County Commissioners - Oct 27 2026

At the October 27, 2026 Walton County Board of County Commissioners meeting, commissioners heard that the county received a $3.5 million state Rural Transportation Fund grant for construction of the north entrance to the Mossy Head Commerce Park on Highway 90, which is already in design and permitting. The county also received $100,000 for post-storm beach promotion. The board approved a two-year extension option for Coastal Parasail’s managed beach-vendor contract, authorized advertising for bids for the northern portion of 115 Sandy Lane, and approved $50,000 from recreation impact fees for replacement safety netting at Helen McCall Park. It also approved up to $150,000 for a mobile restroom trailer, with staff to examine used options. These actions passed unanimously where votes were stated.

Commissioners discussed the existing DRC debris-removal work and its limits under the contract, including questions about collection from private beaches; staff agreed to investigate and report back. The board supported pursuing state beach-nourishment opportunities under 2025 legislation while continuing the HSDR project, and received information on possible FEMA Category B funding, which would require further engineering analysis and a disaster declaration. The county chose not to assume temporary state permitting authority for certain storm-damaged coastal structures. The board also approved a nonmonetary presuit settlement concerning a development proposal; the discussion emphasized that it was site-specific and did not establish county policy allowing stormwater ponds to count as conservation-residential open space.
