# Romania Awards Thales Radar Contract

Romania’s Ministry of National Defence awarded Thales a multiannual contract in October 2026 to supply deployable surveillance and precision-approach radar systems for four Romanian Air Force sites. The package includes four Ground Controlled Approach Radar Systems, a STAR NG primary surveillance radar, an RSM NG/IFF system, and four Precision Approach Radars. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028 and proceed in phases through 2030, supporting air operations from alternative locations and data sharing with Romanian and NATO command networks. The reported value is **326.5 million Romanian lei (approximately $67.8 million)**; this is an award, not an open solicitation.

- The award creates a defined deployment and sustainment program; companies with radar integration, communications, maintenance, training, or local industrial capabilities may find follow-on work as implementation proceeds.
- Contractors should distinguish potential subcontracting or support opportunities from the completed prime award: the signals identify Thales as the awardee and disclose no solicitation number or open bid.
- The phased delivery schedule, beginning in 2028 and extending to 2030, indicates a multiyear window for delivery support and integration with Romanian and NATO networks.
