# Human Rights Commission 10/26/2026

The City of Worcester Human Rights Commission held its regular monthly meeting on October 26, 2026. Former Massachusetts Appeals Court Justice Mel Greenberg discussed the commission’s origins, its former subpoena authority, and the importance of independence in addressing civil-rights complaints. The commission then discussed current police oversight arrangements, including the roles of the city’s DEI office and police standards unit, and differing views on whether an independent police oversight body is needed. No procurement, contract awards, or spending decisions were identified.

The commission approved the prior meeting’s minutes unanimously. Members volunteered to review Worcester Police Department policies on emergency mental-health procedures, interactions with transgender and gender-nonconforming individuals, and body-worn cameras, as well as the proposed camping ordinance, and report back. A motion passed unanimously to attach two letters discussed at the meeting to its minutes and to request guidance on attachment practices for future meetings. The commission adjourned at 9:05 p.m.
