# Attendance Zone & Restructuring Review

Red Clay Schools held an attendance-zone and restructuring review town hall on October 27, 2026. District staff presented a proposal to address declining enrollment and uneven access to academic and extracurricular opportunities. The plan would phase out Thomas McKean High School as a comprehensive high school and convert it to a districtwide Innovation Center for career and technical education pathways, industry credentials, and early-college opportunities. Students would travel from their home high schools to the center for scheduled sessions. The proposal also reduces the comprehensive high schools from three to two, with revised attendance zones generally assigning the northern district to Alexis I. duPont High School and the southern district to John Dickinson High School, and relocates the IB middle-years program from Skyline to Dickinson. Staff described projected enrollment scenarios and transition arrangements, including options for eligible McKean students to remain through graduation and transportation for students attending the Innovation Center.

The presentation outlined continuing implementation work, student and community engagement, and board-required reports and communications; staff said the school board is expected to decide by December whether to lift its postponement or pursue another plan. Questions covered school assignments, choice and transportation, student transitions, and program offerings. No contract awards, purchasing decisions, bid approvals, or specific spending allocations were identified.
