# Elkhart County Live Meeting

The Elkhart County Board of Commissioners meeting, held October 26, 2026 (the date stated during the meeting), approved several funding and infrastructure items. Commissioners approved a contribution agreement supporting the South Bend–Elkhart Regional Partnership of up to $12,000 annually for up to four years, subject to county council funding and the commissioners’ discretion; two commissioners voted yes and one abstained. They also approved Emergency Management grant applications for $23,900 for hazardous-materials planning and $30,000 toward a commodity-flow study, and approved use of an already-awarded $2,500 Norfolk Southern Safety Grant for radios. A salary-reimbursement preparedness grant was also discussed. The board approved the INDOT local public agency agreement for construction of County Road 17 Phase 1B, which enables an 80% INDOT funding allocation, and a United Consulting task order for replacement design of Bridge 336, not to exceed $294,900. A $12,000 state grant, passed through to Walker Resources LLC for volunteer advocates serving seniors and incapacitated adults, was approved.

The commissioners adopted an updated ADA transition plan for pedestrian facilities in public rights-of-way, approved specified county-road speed-limit and stop-control changes, and approved a switch to Orchard, Hiltz & McClellan, Inc. for MS4 stormwater reporting and related services under a task order capped at $50,000. The transcript also includes public comment concerning the regional partnership and economic-development programs. No further spending action on those comments is recorded.
