# 10/22/26 - Hammond Board of Works

The City of Hammond, Indiana Board of Public Works and Safety met on October 22, 2026. No new bids were opened. The board approved requests to declare two fire apparatus vehicles worthless and to remove other obsolete, unserviceable fire department vehicles from the city inventory for auction under state law. Grimmer Construction’s Lyman Avenue drainage project had previously been awarded following a quote process; the board considered a related request for daytime road closures from October 28–30. No contract amount was stated. The board also approved three right-of-way permits involving NIPSCO gas-line work and Comcast duct installation.

The board continued the demolition hearing for the former Clark High School at 1921 Davis Street by agreement, after a resident raised concerns about the school’s state-mandated disposition process and potential demolition costs to taxpayers. Other demolition matters included affirming orders for several properties and setting status dates for others; no demolition contract was awarded at this meeting. The board also approved a temporary vacation-use agreement with Teamsters Local 142 and several event-related street closures. No spending amounts were specified.
