# October 21st Special Meeting

The San Tan Valley Town Council held a special meeting on October 21, 2026, for a presentation and discussion by Queen Creek officials on the town’s water strategy and proposed rates and fees affecting San Tan Valley customers served by Queen Creek. Officials described Queen Creek’s Harquahala Valley water purchases and planned water project, including a 30,000–40,000 acre-foot-per-year phase. The presentation cited approximately $730 million in water costs for existing customers and an estimated $326 million for future growth. No council vote or formal action was taken; Queen Creek said it was in a 60-day comment period, with November 18 identified as the earliest potential date for council action.

Queen Creek proposed a monthly water resource fee of $3.07 per 1,000 gallons and a new-development water resource capacity fee of $10,199 per home, alongside adjustments to existing delivery charges. The fee proposal would be phased over six years; officials estimated a first-year increase of about $1.9 million in aggregate for San Tan Valley customers, while the broader water program is expected to cost about $60 million annually when fully operating. Queen Creek also described a reimbursement process for customers who continue paying CAGRD charges directly, as well as ongoing discussions with EPCOR about possible solutions for its sewer customers. These were proposals and updates, not approved spending or procurement actions.
