# Board of Health Meeting 8-10-2026 - 7 PM

The City of Franklin Board of Health met on August 10, 2026. The board approved the April minutes unanimously. The main budget and staffing discussion concerned the 2027 budget process: the department submitted a largely level operating budget, about $1,000 above the prior year, while the city considers possible reductions. Members discussed the impact of staffing cuts on required services and prevention work. The city intends to fill the vacant health officer position, with decisions subject to the budget process; a full-time public health nurse posting is also being prepared after the nurse’s resignation. A Drug-Free Communities grant currently funds one position and is scheduled to sunset at year’s end. No procurement awards, contract approvals, or spending-related motions were reported.

The board also received updates on the community health assessment, communicable disease activity, public health programs, tobacco compliance checks, and environmental health inspections and licensing. Staff reported 334 usable survey responses and preliminary priorities including healthy aging, mental health, chronic disease, and community safety. The updated health officer job description, previously approved by the City Council in July, was noted as completed. The board discussed possible health department consolidation but no decision was made.
