# Kingsport MTPO Executive Board Meeting

The Kingsport MTPO Executive Board met on August 14, 2026. The board approved the May 14 minutes with a correction and passed an amendment to the FY 2026–2029 Transportation Improvement Program adding $29 million to the FY 2026 maintenance and system-preservation grouping. The board also received an update on the 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan, including preliminary project scoring and regional roadway, freight, safety, and congestion needs; no projects were awarded through that planning discussion. A Virginia inland port near Exit 10 was noted as funded at $20 million, with freight impacts and additional study still to be clarified.

The board heard that TDOT selected Autobase for its Rural Service Patrol contract, signed in December, with service launched statewide by July and coverage in the Kingsport area. City staff reported that a paving award to Summers Taylor for Eastman Road and Clinchfield Street was scheduled for consideration by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, not approved at this meeting. Transit updates included seven vehicles expected to arrive for Net Trans, three buses expected for CATS with a grant approved for a fourth, and an agreement being signed with Transit Technologies for maintenance software. The meeting also noted upcoming State Partnership Program applications, which include TAP and multimodal projects; no related spending vote was reported.
