# September 14, 2026 Committee Meetings

Hamblen County committee meetings, September 14, 2026: The Rules Review Committee voted to keep the current rules in effect temporarily while it develops updated procedures to meet a state-law 90-day deadline. The Justice Center Committee heard that close-out negotiations remain stalled; the mayor said the county would provide a final update when negotiations are complete, and no savings figure was available. In Finance, the committee approved retaining the current county attorney to continue pending litigation and assist with a 180-day transition to a successor. It also approved Health Department project change orders of $1,536 for janitor-closet wall protection and $10,000 for previously negotiated contractor charges; the latter was covered by a state grant and was described as adding no cost to the county. A further change-order item consolidated previously approved directives with no additional contract cost.

Finance also approved a $633,424.69 Board of Education budget amendment, an $8,500 Cherokee Park amendment using proceeds from a vehicle sale toward a mower, a $1,425 scanner purchase, a $7,655.83 Highway Safety Office grant reimbursement for sheriff’s equipment and roadblock overtime, and $1,781 for a courtroom-security sergeant’s salary and benefits. The Personnel Committee approved surplus computer equipment for disposition and surplus county vehicles, including one designated for online auction. The Future Growth Committee discussed long-term planning and industrial development, but no related project or procurement was approved.
