# City Council Mtg 102026

The City of New Iberia City Council meeting was held October 21, 2026. The council unanimously approved a fiscal-year 2025–26 budget amendment to keep the budget within the state-required 5% threshold. It also authorized the next steps for the Cading Acres drainage pond project, whose bids came in under budget; the city plans to consider adding perimeter fencing and security lighting through a later change order. The council approved a $60,000 proposal from C.H. Fenstermaker and Associates LLC for a drainage study in the flood-prone Summerfield subdivision. It awarded the North Landry Drive Coulee Cleaning Project contract to Southern Constructors LLC; no award amount was stated. The 2026–27 capital outlay priority list was approved, and the mayor said approximately $160,000 of community-center electrical work remains, with the city seeking a funding source.

The council approved six- and 12-month supply bids after removing the high-calcium quicklime item from the resolution; members noted that prices were generally somewhat higher and that few vendors had bid. It also approved the annual city–DOTD agreement, with a slightly higher state contribution than the prior year, and endorsed a restoration tax-abatement application for the St. Peter House. In a property matter involving a church purchase, approval was amended to limit occupancy to 300 people until a variance is obtained. The council introduced an animal-cruelty ordinance with proposed fines of $300–$500 and clarified enforcement responsibilities; it was set for a November 3 public hearing. No contract amounts were provided for the coulee-cleaning award or supply bids.
