# Planning Commission

The City of Lafayette Planning Commission met on October 20, 2026. It unanimously approved Resolution 2026-11, recommending that the City Council adopt General Plan, zoning map/text, and Downtown Specific Plan amendments associated with the city’s settlement of a housing-element lawsuit. The changes include increased allowable residential densities and building heights in specified downtown areas, adding two acres of the De Silva South site to a residential designation, and clarifying minimum densities and permitted uses. Staff said the item would go to the City Council within about four weeks. The Commission also discussed related zoning and use provisions, including how new auto-related uses would require a land use permit in the East End; existing operations would not be affected.

The Commission reviewed phase two, part two of the Objective Design Standards (MCR01-25), covering building massing and stepbacks, parking, open space, and fire-safety landscaping. It recommended approval of Resolution 2026-10 by a 3–1 vote, with a recommendation to allow window panes up to 18 square feet and to remove planters from the Zone Zero prohibited list; Commissioner Mason opposed the Zone Zero portion and stated support for the window-size change. No contracts, vendor selections, purchasing decisions, or other procurement activity were identified.
