# Fire Commission 10-20-2026

The City of Norwalk Fire Commission met on October 20, 2026. The prior chief’s first-quarter FY2027 report stated that the department had spent approximately $6.18 million, or 25.63% of its annual budget—about $150,000 above straight-line projections, largely due to the timing of annual expenses. Salaries were approximately $495,000 below projection, while overtime was about $23,000 above, attributed to seasonal demand and long-term injuries. No budget amendments or procurement awards were presented. The commission also heard updates on facility and equipment work: a Station 4 project package is being prepared for a future update, the apparatus maintenance building is being reorganized, and repairs under the Guardian buildings improvement plan are ongoing. A compressor for the SCBA system has been ordered; no vendor or price was stated. The approved policy-management software remains in contract review with the legal department.

Operational reports covered rising call volume (more than 7,000 calls year to date), marine-unit activity, live-fire and other training, inspections, and emergency responses. Members discussed whether department staffing may need to grow with city demand, but no staffing decision was made. The commission moved to accept the prior meeting’s minutes and later voted to adjourn; no procurement-related motions or votes were reported.
