# October 19, 2026 - Library Commission

The City of Menlo Park Library Commission met on October 19, 2026. In a study session, commissioners discussed how to communicate library accomplishments and usage data to the public, with an initial preference for a simple annual or year-in-review summary using program and attendance statistics, potentially distributed through the newsletter and website. The commission also reviewed District 1 outreach ideas, including improved library signage, website access to information, community partnerships, and research into why some residents do not use the library; these were discussions and work items, not approved spending decisions.

Procurement-related discussion focused on a proposed needs study for the main library in light of planned housing growth. The subcommittee is drafting a uniform RFP to solicit proposals from approximately five or six architectural firms for a three-to-six-month study, including community outreach and possible concepts; one firm has already submitted a proposal, but no firm was selected and no contract or funding was approved. Commissioners also discussed whether the Friends of the Library and Library Foundation might share the study’s cost. Separately, staff reported that alarm and fire-suppression improvements at the main library, described as using COVID-era recovery funds, have not yet gone out to bid and may require a temporary closure in roughly 9–12 months; staff is exploring whether other work could be coordinated during the closure. No procurement awards or spending votes were identified.
