# Board of County Commissioners Meeting - 10/20/26

At its October 20, 2026 meeting, the Mecklenburg County Board of County Commissioners advanced several property and infrastructure matters. The board authorized negotiations to acquire about 15 acres from the Board of Education for $15 million for parks, recreation, and housing, and approved purchasing about 6.005 acres with improvements from RBM Skyline Investors LLC for $16.78 million to house CMS district staff; the latter passed with one opposing vote. Commissioners also approved the Shuffletown Park construction contract with Fairwood as the lowest responsible bidder (no contract amount was stated) and adopted final street-lighting assessments for multiple subdivisions. Consent items included public-health grant applications. A proposed $25,000 bridge grant for the Center for Community Transitions failed on a 4–4 vote.

The county presented a proposed framework for Phase One of Brooklyn Village with First and Early Capital, including flexible uses but minimum commitments for housing, affordable housing, office, hotel, and retail. Commissioners requested more detail on preserving Brooklyn’s legacy, affordability, community input, and the project timeline; no action was taken, and staff expects to return with an agreement for consideration on November 5. The Library Board reported that its foundation has paid $42 million toward the Main Library project, with a further $10 million payment planned for spring 2027. The meeting also included discussion of potential county budget pressures from new SNAP costs and a Lake Wylie commission request to increase its annual county funding from $25,000 to $35,000.
