# Johnston City Council Meeting - October 19, 2026

At its October 19, 2026 meeting, the Johnston City Council approved the Country Ridge Storm Water Channel Stabilization project after receiving a low bid of $270,000.01 from Des Moines Dirt Works, about 38% below the engineer’s estimated cost of $400,340. The council approved resolutions adopting the project specifications and awarding the contract; it also approved related resolutions concerning the bid-submission deadline and revised notice to bidders. Staff said work could begin in winter and is expected to be completed around May. The project addresses erosion, with staff noting efforts to limit impacts on neighborhood trees and prior engagement with residents.

The library board reported that the building condition study identified approximately $800,000 in emergency and critical repairs over the next two years, including about $600,000 in mechanical work; some work has already been approved through the city’s capital improvement plan. No new library repair spending or procurement was approved at this meeting. The council also approved several water and sewer rate or connection-fee ordinances, a zoning-map amendment, and other routine items; no additional procurement awards were identified.
