# Board of Adjustment - 10/20/26 5:00 pm

The City of Marshalltown Board of Adjustment met on October 20, 2026. The board considered a special use permit for CenturyLink/Lumen’s proposed expansion of a telecommunications shelter facility at 3202 South 6th Street, including two additional 300-kilowatt diesel generators. Members and a nearby business owner raised concerns about generator noise, potential combined sound levels, and on-site fuel storage; the existing equipment’s enclosure and noise performance were not confirmed. By unanimous roll-call vote, the board tabled the application pending more detailed information on the proposed generators and sound mitigation, plus a daytime noise reading and details about the existing generator equipment. No contract award, purchasing decision, or other procurement activity was identified.

The meeting also included discussion of the city’s existing noise limits and a proposed ordinance amendment addressing generator testing and operation during outages; the amendment was scheduled for consideration by the City Council and was not adopted at this meeting. The board approved the August 18 minutes and recorded Heidi Hogan’s resignation from the board, effective immediately.
