# 10/19/26 - Hammond Plan Commission Meeting

The City of Hammond Plan Commission held a public hearing on October 19, 2026, regarding CP26-09, an amendment to the comprehensive plan for the South Hammond Station neighborhood in Planning District 4. Consultant Adam Pieper of Hammond Weigel and Klein (HWC) presented recommendations on land use, transportation, and neighborhood quality of life, including context-appropriate housing and redevelopment, traffic monitoring and potential roadway changes, pedestrian and bicycle access, and property maintenance. The recommendations are intended as a flexible planning guide; no construction project, funding allocation, contract award, or purchase was approved. The commission took no action on CP26-09 after the hearing; it is expected to return in November for further consideration. The August 17 meeting minutes were tabled by a 9–0 vote because they were not ready for presentation.

Public comments addressed concerns about widening an alley or restricting Lyman Avenue, congestion and potential lane changes at 173rd Street and Calumet Avenue, station parking and train-gate operations, seasonal traffic counts, pedestrian crossings, and the need for additional housing. Staff and the consultant responded that potential traffic measures would be monitored and could require further study, coordination, and public input. They also noted that any future expansion of station parking would be a concern for the city. No procurement activity was identified; the consultant’s planning work was discussed, but no contract or related expenditure was specified.
