# City Council Meeting 08.17.2026

The City of Merced City Council meeting was held August 18, 2026. The council unanimously adopted Resolution 2026-54, authorizing an application for up to $5 million from the California Natural Resources Agency’s Urban Greening Grant Program for the Merced Regional Sports Complex CP42 project, and authorizing acceptance of the funding if awarded. Staff said the application was due September 4 and that Merced had advanced from an initial pool of about 400 applicants to approximately 40. No grant award was made at this meeting. During public comment, a local artist raised concerns about budgets in the city’s current public-art RFPs and requested higher funding or a revised RFP; the council took no action on that request.

The council also approved revisions to procedures for inspections of multi-unit substandard buildings, with Council Member Jeang voting no. The discussion included inspection and notice requirements and staff capacity; the council did not adopt a specific 14-day deadline. A motion to direct staff to research expanded tenant protections failed for lack of a second, so no new tenant-protection measures or related spending were authorized. No contract awards or vendor selections were identified.
