# 10/15/26 Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee

The Town of Fairfield Bicycle & Pedestrian Committee met on October 15, 2026. Procurement-related discussion focused on a downtown parking study requested by Fairfield and funded through MetroCOG. The consultant selection is underway through an RFQ: six firms responded, four were shortlisted, and interviews were scheduled for the following day. The proposed study has an approximately one-year scope and will examine parking use and requirements in the Post Road corridor. No consultant was selected and no contract award or spending vote occurred. The committee also discussed pursuing a planning grant for the Harbor-to-Hills trail and noted that the Board of Finance did not fund the Mill Plain and another Complete Streets project; members discussed educating finance officials about the projects and possible funding in the next fiscal year. A paid, pilot e-bike safety course was also discussed, with the exact fee and schedule not established.

Other transportation and infrastructure items included a forthcoming Safe Streets for All crash-map tool, a planned replacement of the Old Field Road bridge over South Pine Creek, and a development application near the proposed Harbor-to-Hills route. Members discussed seeking trail access protections or an easement through the development review process. Updates on traffic-safety measures included proposed school-zone speed-limit consistency, crosswalk flashing lights, raised crosswalks, pavement markings, and additional stop signs; these were discussed as ongoing or proposed measures, not committee purchasing approvals. The committee approved the September minutes and the 2025 annual report unanimously. No procurement award was approved.
