# Orleans Parish Board of Review Meeting

The New Orleans City Council, acting as the Orleans Parish Board of Review, met on October 16, 2026, to consider property tax assessment appeals. Hammerman & Gainer (HGI), the third-party firm that reviews appeals and recommends assessed values, reported that it handled 531 appeals: hearing officers agreed with the Assessor’s Office in 238 cases (about 44.5%) and recommended no change in 15 personal-property cases. HGI said the reviewed values totaled approximately $87.5 million and described an 11.8% difference; it also noted concerns involving 41 properties and recommended discussion with the Assessor’s Office. HGI emphasized that it makes recommendations, not final decisions. No new contract award, solicitation, or procurement action was identified.

Housing NOLA urged relief for more than 2,700 seniors and homeowners with disabilities, but Council representatives said state law and the appeal deadlines limit the Board’s authority to cases properly filed by taxpayers or their representatives. Members discussed assessment procedures, property damage and vacancies as valuation factors, and the need for better communication between HGI and the Assessor’s Office. The Council announced the next appeal period as July 15–August 17, 2027. The Board approved the relevant action and a resolution to certify its decision to the Louisiana Tax Commission; each vote recorded seven ayes and no nays.
