# PC Meeting for October 14, 2026

The Leavenworth County, Kansas Planning Commission met on October 14, 2026. No procurement activity, contract awards, or purchasing decisions were identified. The commission considered several land-use applications: it approved two variances (DEV-26-120 and DEV-26-128) by 7–0; recommended approval of rezoning case DEV-26-119 by a 4–3 vote after discussion of the comprehensive land-use plan and neighborhood character; and recommended approval of cases DEV-26-130 and DEV-26-131, with the latter approved 7–0. The rezoning matters are subject to further consideration by the Board of County Commissioners, and the meeting noted the applicable protest-petition process.

The commission also voted to recommend the proposed 2026 zoning-language amendments for battery energy storage systems to the Board of County Commissioners. Staff said no project applications were pending and that a temporary moratorium on these uses would remain until regulations are adopted. The proposed rules address permitting, emergency-response planning, developer-funded firefighter training and specialized equipment, and financial assurance for site decommissioning; commissioners also discussed insurance and future reuse of site buildings. Data-center regulations were deferred for later consideration.
