# Bloomington Commission on Sustainability, October 13, 2026

The Bloomington Commission on Sustainability and Resilience met on October 13, 2026. Procurement and funding discussions included an unspent $6,000 commission grant allocation for community sustainability projects, which does not carry over; the commission discussed a possible cost-shared Retrocycle reusable-cup pilot but made no funding decision. Staff said proposals would need Economic and Sustainable Development review before a possible November vote. The commission was also told its 2027 budget line would be reduced to $1,000 total. Separately, commissioners approved an O’Neill School capstone proposal on publicly owned affordable housing; it is a research project, with no expenditure approved in the meeting.

The commission discussed uncertainty about the city’s Flock contracts and surveillance equipment. A council sponsors’ memo said contracts remained in effect for four downtown surveillance cameras and four mobile security trailers, despite public statements that the city’s license-plate-reader contracts had ended. The commission authorized a member to send the Common Council a letter noting that the mayor’s response to the commission’s information request did not answer its questions. Commissioners also noted that the council was expected to consider an ordinance restricting Flock license-plate readers and related surveillance technology; no contract award or ordinance vote occurred at this commission meeting.
