# Yakima City Council October 13, 2026

At the October 13, 2026, regular meeting of the Yakima City Council, members unanimously approved the consent agenda. It included a supplemental agreement with HDR Engineering, Inc., not to exceed $549,820, for construction engineering and permitting for the Nelson Dam removal, water supply, fish passage, and riverine process Phase 2 conveyance improvements project (IC2010). The agenda also included approval of contract-price and contract-time modifications totaling $1,333,123.33, including sales tax. Staff presented a proposed balanced 2027–28 budget; no budget action was taken. Staff said a request for proposals for the Harmon Center had been issued and contract negotiations were in progress. The proposed budget maintains or plans funding for several community facilities and services, while Franklin Pool funding remained unresolved. Staff also highlighted equipment and infrastructure needs, including police equipment funding of $250,000 compared with an estimated need of $1.4 million, and discussed potential longer-term funding and economic-development approaches.

Public commenters urged the council to end or restrict the city’s use of Flock license-plate reader cameras, raised privacy and cost concerns, and requested a local ban on kratom sales. These were public comments rather than council decisions. The meeting also included discussion of the proposed budget’s reserve level and future funding pressures; the budget presentation was scheduled for further consideration before planned adoption in December.
