# October 14, 2026 Roseburg School Board Meeting

The October 14, 2026 Roseburg Schools Board meeting included extensive public comment on the district’s proposed Firgrove school closure. Parents, students, and staff urged the board to delay or reconsider the proposal, citing student stability, class sizes, special-education and health supports, transportation, Title I services, and the school’s community role. The superintendent said the district would continue providing information and reported that the Align to Thrive report and related closure information had drawn substantial public attention. The board did not vote on closing Firgrove at this meeting. The superintendent also reported that expiring pension obligation bonds could substantially increase district costs: estimates included a roughly $400,000 monthly cost difference next year and as much as $5.3 million in 2027–28, pending updated figures from PERS. No procurement activity, contract awards, or purchasing decisions were identified.

The board approved the consent agenda and adopted Resolution 26-27-9 designating November 16–20, 2026, as American Education Week. Administrators presented annual reports on English learner outcomes and Division 22 compliance, reporting the district was compliant with all applicable standards. Committee reports covered curriculum adoptions, instructional programs, and student support services; the superintendent also discussed student achievement, career pathways, and dual-credit opportunities. These reports did not include procurement approvals or funding decisions.
