# 10/14/26 Greenways & Open Space Commission

The October 14, 2026, Greenways & Open Space Commission meeting of Metro Nashville Network focused on Nashville’s greenway and open-space project pipeline, capital needs, land acquisition goals, and coordination with partner organizations. Staff reviewed five-year Plan to Play recommendations, including an approximately 82-acre annual land-acquisition figure for the baseline tier, 507 acres in the growth tier, and roughly 1,400 acres in the most ambitious tier. Several projects are funded or underway; the Opry Mills Connector needs an additional $5 million, included in the Capital Spending Plan for consideration around December 2028, while $1.2 million for the Seven Mile Creek project has been recommended by the mayor’s office but still requires Metro Council approval. Seia Park–Browns Creek Park and Park Plaza–Centennial Park were described as funded. No contract awards, vendor selections, or procurement votes were reported.

The commission discussed revising the Charlotte Rail-to-Trail study scope to address the difficult middle section as well as the ends; the study is expected to take about eight months, with a possible temporary connection considered. Members also discussed proposed land-management and partnership approaches, including natural-area designation, collaboration with developers and institutions, and studying practices in other cities; these were discussion topics, not adopted policies. At Fort Negley, staff reported that about 18 additional acres and trails are expected to open to the public in mid-spring following Phase One work. The prior meeting minutes were approved unanimously, and a proposal to begin planning a commission retreat and related activities was approved. Greenways for Nashville also reported fundraising success at its 20th-anniversary event and ongoing work to build a pipeline of fundable projects.
