# Parks and Recreation Board Meeting 10/14/2026

The City of Amarillo Parks and Recreation Board met on October 14, 2026. Staff said an aquatic feasibility-study item was postponed because consultant information was still under internal review. The board reviewed summer pool operations and attendance, including higher attendance and revenue at Thompson Pool, and requested comparative 2025–2026 figures for pool attendance, costs, and revenue to inform future decisions about the city’s aquatic facilities. Staff also discussed flooding and drainage at McDonald Lake; dredging would be evaluated by the Utilities group if capacity becomes an issue.

Staff reported on council-approved parks funding and projects: $500,000 for a centralized irrigation control system, $250,000 for restroom removals at school parks, and $200,000 for playground work, as well as approval of an irrigation pump station project (amount not stated). The restroom-removal work is currently out to bid and is expected to go to council at an upcoming meeting; no award or procurement vote was reported at this meeting. Staff also reported that golf, tennis, and athletics came in below their budgeted subsidies, with the department estimating it finished about $1.3 million under its budgeted subsidy. The board discussed a future agenda item on meeting location and a public-feedback survey at the October 24 Pirates of the Park event.
