# Transportation Plan 2050 Draft Plan Virtual Meeting

Tempe Transportation Plan 2050 draft-plan virtual public meeting, held October 14, 2026: city staff presented a long-range vision and recommended projects for the next 25 years, including sidewalk connections, a lower-stress Bike It network, transit frequency improvements and new Orbit routes, streetcar expansion, and traffic-safety improvements. The recommendations are intended to guide future decisions, but much of the plan is unfunded and will depend on community and council priorities and annual budget decisions. Staff said the Country Club Way project appears in the plan and the city’s capital improvement program with partial funding in future years; a proposed streetcar extension has federal funding supporting design but is not funded for construction. HDR was identified as the consulting firm, but no contract award, procurement decision, or spending vote was reported.

In response to questions, staff discussed congestion and potential improvements near Rural Road and the 202, including signal timing, transit service, and possible ramp work; integration of ASU’s Novus development and the McCain Institute area; and support for older adults who do not use smartphones. The draft plan and project lists are available for public review, and the survey is open through November 4. The plan also includes a Vision Zero focus, shade and accessibility strategies, and goals for improving multimodal connections and transportation resilience.
