# School Board Meeting - October 13, 2026

At the October 13, 2026 Evergreen Public Schools board meeting, the superintendent updated the board on the district’s facilities review, which is examining possible school-consolidation scenarios in response to declining enrollment and financial pressures. The scenarios were developed with Flow Analytics using school feeder patterns, geography, facility utilization, and building age and condition. The district reported 350–400 attendees at two community sessions and more than 1,200 survey responses; it emphasized that no school-closure decisions have been made and that further community input and analysis are planned. Public commenters raised concerns about student impacts, equity, transportation, enrollment growth, and whether closures would deliver projected savings. No contracts, RFPs, vendor awards, or procurement approvals were identified.

Other discussion included an instructional update from Covington Middle School and an HR presentation on unpaid leave. HR cited substitute benefit costs of $1,374 per month, or $16,488 for a full-year assignment, while community speakers disputed how those costs should be attributed. The board unanimously advanced a proposal on advisory votes by student representatives to a second reading and also advanced a change to Policy 1420 concerning consent-agenda language; discussion indicated the consent-agenda process itself would remain in place. A motion asking the superintendent to request repayment of $13,980 from the COO received no second and was not taken up. The board then recessed for a workshop on school consolidation and policy matters.
