# City Council 10/13/2026

The City of Brookings City Council met on October 13, 2026. The council approved Resolution 26-065, authorizing a $500 special assessment to recover the city’s cost for lawn care on a property brought into compliance with city ordinance. It also approved Ordinance 26-024 (2026 Budget Amendment No. 7), providing $145,000 in existing budget authority for one-time transition costs as the Dakota Bank Center moves to city operations on January 1, 2027; staff said the funding would come from existing 3B tax budget authority, with no additional appropriation needed. The first reading of Ordinance 26-035 (Budget Amendment No. 8) addressed the center’s projected $193,000 operating budget variance through year-end. The proposal would authorize cash transfers only as needed, based on monthly analyses; no final approval vote was reported at this meeting.

The council also approved Resolution 26-064, determining the necessity of sidewalk repairs and installations at the expense of affected property owners. Staff said the city would proceed to bid the repair project and return with a contract-award recommendation. The council introduced, but did not finally adopt, an ordinance governing sidewalk, trail, and shared-use-path use; its second reading was set for October 27. Brookings Municipal Utilities reported proposed residential electric and water rate increases of 3.5% and 4%, respectively, but these were presented as proposals at a BMU meeting, not as council actions. No vendor selections or contract awards were made at this council meeting.
