# Porter County Government - Storm Water Advisory Board - October, 12th 2026

Porter County Storm Water Advisory Board meeting (titled October 12, 2026; metadata lists October 14). The board approved vacating a portion of a regulated drain for a Shirley Heinze Land Trust wetland-restoration project, expected to restore or create wetlands on part of a 77-acre parcel. Staff reported the drain tile had failed and that the vacation would not adversely affect drainage on neighboring properties. Discussion also covered separate county plans to address standing water near County Road 1200 North, including work enabled by a newly obtained easement; the county is still determining the outlet design. No contract awards, new procurement approvals, or spending amounts were identified. Two applications, SM-26-0030 and SM-26-0031, were continued at the applicants’ request.

For an agricultural irrigation installation, staff recommended after-the-fact approval of utility poles and power lines subject to raising or otherwise adjusting the line to provide at least seven feet of clearance above the creek bank, and execution of a hold-harmless agreement. The item was to go to the Stormwater Management Board for final approval on October 27. Project updates noted that the 24-inch outlet storm sewer for the Hackberry Lane drainage improvements had been installed, with remaining drainage work expected to finish within weeks, and that the Rolling Meadows subdivision project was nearing completion.
