# [Archived] Building Board of Appeals Regular Meeting - Wednesday, October 14, 2026

The Town of Prescott Valley Building Board of Appeals met on October 14, 2026. The board approved the July 15, 2026 meeting minutes. The main discussion was a presentation by CAFMA fire officials on 2024 fire-code provisions and proposed local amendments, including requiring secondary access for new communities and fire sprinklers for certain large home additions. Officials said these measures are intended to improve fire response and evacuation; no code adoption or other spending decision was voted on at this meeting. They also discussed current permit costs for residential sprinklers—about $2 per square foot and roughly $450–$500 for the permit—and efforts to keep plan reviews and permitting timely.

Officials described a joint, community-informed Community Wildfire Protection Plan expected to take about two years to develop, and said Prescott Valley is not planning to implement WUI requirements for at least two years. CAFMA is considering fire-risk modeling and hopes to seek grant funding for it, but no grant, contract, vendor selection, or purchase was approved. The board also discussed identifying ways to provide secondary egress for existing neighborhoods and invited continued coordination between town staff, CAFMA, and the building community.
