# Finance Committee Meeting

The City of Santa Fe Finance Committee met on October 14, 2026. After approving the agenda and consent agenda, members discussed a proposed review of the city’s committee structure and a pilot process for publicly vetting legislation. They noted that more than 45 committees are on the books, including inactive or obsolete bodies, and discussed standardizing terminology, clarifying committee purposes and responsibilities, setting term limits or sunset dates, and improving public participation and member expertise. Civic assemblies and participatory budgeting were also raised as possible tools for focused community input.

Members supported having staff prepare a revised draft that addresses inactive committees identified in the committee inventory and return it for further review, with the chair and legislative staff coordinating timing and workload. The discussion also covered the importance of primary sponsors, advance notice to staff, and avoiding committee review of legislation without its sponsor’s agreement. No contract awards, purchasing decisions, budget allocations, or other procurement activity were identified.
