# Finance Committee: Meeting of October 12, 2026

The City of Madison Finance Committee reviewed the Mayor’s 2027 executive operating budget on October 12, 2026; the budget was not adopted at this meeting. Staff presented a proposed $477.5 million general fund budget, with approximately $1 million in reductions, a $25.5 million Metro subsidy (about $9 million below the previously projected amount), and a projected $400,000 margin below the state expenditure limit. The committee unanimously approved the consent agenda and later unanimously referred the budget item and remaining agenda to the next day’s meeting. Public comment urged increased funding and staffing for the Office of the Independent Police Monitor; the executive budget retained its 2026 funding level, while the Monitor described requests that included staff, investigative and consulting services, and case-management software. Madison Police also reported $350,000 in Madison Community Foundation grant funding for three positions. No new contract awards or bids were approved.
