# LIVE COVERAGE Finance Committee Meeting of October 13, 2026

The Salinas Finance Committee met on October 13, 2026. Its main procurement item was a proposal to bring street sweeping in-house after continued performance problems with Republic Services’ contractor. Staff requested authority for the city manager to purchase four sweepers—three Schwartz M6 SE Avalanche mechanical sweepers and one Ravo R5 I Series compact sweeper—for an estimated $2.2 million, including a 10% contingency. Staff cited Sourcewell cooperative pricing, equipment testing, and shorter delivery times compared with the city’s prior supplier. The committee unanimously recommended the purchase to the City Council for final approval, along with use of the infrastructure reserve to front the cost and authority for a reimbursement resolution; staff said Republic Services would pay the city a fee to cover ongoing street-sweeping costs. Delivery was anticipated around April if ordered promptly.

The committee also received a tracking-poll report on renewal of Measure G. The poll found support had risen to about two-thirds after respondents heard additional information; staff noted the city could face an anticipated $47 million deficit if the measure is not renewed. No action was required on the report, which was expected to go to the full council on October 27. The committee also approved the September 1 minutes on consent.
