# Johnson County Council Meeting 10-12-2026

The Johnson County Council meeting on October 12, 2026, approved Resolution 2026-08 and Ordinance 2026-09, authorizing general-obligation bonds of up to $7,835,000 for vehicles, park and fairground and highway equipment, and county projects and improvements. The bonds have a maximum eight-year term, with estimated interest costs of $385,688 at an estimated 5% rate. The council also adopted the 2027 county budgets, including changes read into the record, and approved the 2027 annual salary ordinance. It approved a reclassification of the sheriff’s crime scene investigator position to a Civilian 5 job class, with a 2027 salary of $64,008, and approved use of the Recorder’s Records Perpetuation Fund for 2027 operating expenses and salaries.

The council discussed a tourism board grant involving $100,000 for public artwork by an artist in Brazil; members questioned the procurement process, taxpayer safeguards, and the reported $50,000 advance payment. The tourism director said the board had relied on its attorney’s advice and described plans to assess tourism impacts. A motion concerning the tourism board’s quarterly draw passed, with one council member voting no. The council also approved the consent agenda and its 2027 meeting schedule; discussion of possible amendments to council rules was deferred to a later meeting.
