# City Council Meeting October 13, 2026

At its October 13, 2026 regular meeting, the Springdale City Council approved an endorsement for Tyson Foods to participate in Arkansas’s tax-back incentive program for modernization of the former Cargill building. The incentive applies to a portion of Tyson’s investment and requires city endorsement of the city sales-tax portion; the state Department of Finance and Administration administers the refund. The city’s economic development representative said the renovated facility is expected to employ more than 1,600 people, though no firm hiring timeline was provided. The endorsement passed 8–0.

The council also approved Best Friends Animal Society grant-funded 2026 budget amendments for outdoor dog-run improvements and spay/neuter services, and authorized purchase of new public library lounge chairs (7–1). It approved an approximately $1.73 million construction contract for Rabbit Foot Trail Phase 2 (8–0); proposed trail lighting was discussed, with one materials estimate of about $70,000, but was not included in the current-year budget. A professional services contract with Friesen Nichols for a citywide 2D stormwater model, priced at $89,800, passed with one abstention. Other actions included approval of annual county property-tax levies and two cleanup liens. The proposed budget books were scheduled for distribution October 15, with the budget meeting set for October 30.
