# City Council briefing Oct 12th

At its October 12, 2026 meeting, the Thomasville City Council reviewed three concepts for the Kern Street redevelopment. Council members indicated a preference for Option 3, a 20-home plan combining smaller cottage-style and larger homes with individual ownership. Staff will work with McGill to advance the concept; zoning or development-plan changes and subsequent planning approvals are still required. The discussion also covered tradeoffs in density, street ownership, and long-term maintenance, including the potential cost of HOA fees under a shared-ownership arrangement.

The council voted unanimously, 6–0, to approve a $365,480 contract with CPL for architecture and engineering design services and construction management for the Regional Strickland Center. Temporary road closures for Chair City Christmas and the Star of Bethlehem event were presented for approval, but the transcript does not capture a clear final vote. For a future agenda, staff outlined a proposed $60,000 transfer from general fund contingency for a government-relations contractual agreement and an $800 appropriation of contributions for the Light Up the Holidays event; the two items were to be listed separately. Other future agenda items include a sewer-line cleaning and CCTV inspection contract and amendments to vehicle-safety, special-event, and loading-zone policies.
