# Army Advances Lockheed PAC-3 Edge

The U.S. Army has advanced Lockheed Martin’s PAC-3 Edge proposal to the next stage of its Future Interceptor competition for a system intended to replace PAC-3 MSE and counter advanced threats, including hypersonic missiles. Development and testing are planned to begin in 2027, with deployment targeted for 2031. PAC-3 Edge has not been reported as a separate contract award or solicitation. Separately, the Army has a contract valued at up to **$58.6 billion** to expand PAC-3 production, and a seven-year Pentagon framework agreement announced in January 2026 targets capacity of 2,000 interceptors annually.

- The Future Interceptor remains a competition rather than a confirmed award; companies should distinguish the PAC-3 Edge development opportunity from the separate PAC-3 production expansion.
- Lockheed says PAC-3 Edge will offer improved range, altitude, seeker sensitivity, and maneuverability and integrate with existing Army air and missile defense systems. Suppliers with relevant seeker, propulsion, and advanced-manufacturing capabilities may find potential subcontracting opportunities.
- Northrop Grumman is identified as supplying PAC-3 Edge’s multi-pulse rocket motor. The production expansion and the future interceptor competition create distinct demand signals for industry planning.
