# Consolidated Zoning Board 10.07.26

The Johnson County, Kansas Consolidated Zoning Board meeting was held October 7, 2026. The board unanimously approved a special permit for a replacement air traffic control tower at New Century AirCenter. The proposed tower is 121 feet tall including antennas, replacing a 63-foot tower and providing a 360-degree view. The airport representative said the project is federally funded and described a target ribbon-cutting in the fourth quarter of 2028; bids were anticipated, but no contract award or vendor selection was made. The board also unanimously recommended approval of revised development plans and an exterior-storage conditional use permit for a 7,500-square-foot building at 20870 Floyd Street, and unanimously approved renewal of a conditional use permit for a dog breeding and boarding kennel at 38120 West 151st Street.

The board recommended approval, by an 8–1 vote, of rezoning and a preliminary plat for 12 residential lots on approximately 65 acres. Public comments raised concerns about stormwater runoff and silt entering Gardner Lake, traffic and road safety, and emergency access. Staff said detailed engineering, drainage, infrastructure, and traffic review would continue before final plat approval. County planning staff also reported that an update to zoning and subdivision regulations is in its final review module, with a consolidated draft and public hearing anticipated later in 2026 and consideration by the Board of County Commissioners in early 2027. No procurement award or purchasing decision was identified.
