# Select Board - October 6th, 2026

At the October 6, 2026 Milton Select Board meeting, the board approved the Phase 2 scope of work for an economic development plan with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC). It also unanimously approved a license for temporary LP-gas storage at 582 Blue Hill Avenue, subject to any additional Fire Department requirements. The board unanimously voted to cancel the town’s Flock automatic license plate reader contract and remove the cameras; staff reported that legal counsel considered the town well positioned to cancel. Board members discussed developing surveillance safeguards and setting data-storage, access, and vendor requirements before considering any future procurement. Proposals for reuse of the East Milton Fire Station property were discussed but not decided, with further consideration deferred. The town’s solid-waste, recycling, and yard-waste contracts expire June 30, 2027; staff are drafting an RFP and awaiting a possible contract-extension proposal from current hauler Casella. Reported annual costs were about $1.7 million for trash, $1.3 million for recycling, and $560,000 for yard waste.

The board discussed, but did not vote on, the proposed acquisition and potential school use of the Laborett property; next steps depend partly on feedback from the Massachusetts School Building Authority. A proposed advisory group for alternative property uses was sent to the Planning Board and Planning Director for comments, with no group formed. Staff also reported approximately $230,000 in grant awards and a $500,000 design grant for water-main, roadway, and signal work along Canton Avenue, as well as $6.4 million in certified general-fund free cash. Residents raised traffic-safety concerns on Upper Canton Avenue, and staff said they were awaiting engineering recommendations. No procurement decision was made on the East Milton Fire Station proposals.
