# Springfield School Committee 10/08/2026 Student Reps & Regular Meeting

At the October 8, 2026 Springfield School Committee regular meeting, members unanimously approved several grant expenditures: $400,000 from the Barr Foundation for Discovery Polytechnic Early College High School, a Barr Foundation instructional-leadership grant whose amount is garbled in the transcript (rendered as “$300,150,000”), $55,000 from DESE for career and technical education frameworks, and $96,400 from the Davis Foundation for literacy. Members also unanimously approved contract renewals or agreements, including $500,000 not to exceed for out-of-district special-education tuition through Guild for Human Services (contract 20250282); $350,000 for the Sonido Musica program (20270117); $405,000 for an adaptive music program (20270118); $600,000 for educational software, training, maintenance, and professional development (20250301); $200,000 for College Board testing materials and professional development (20250735); and $367,880 for volunteer and coach background-check services (20250162). The committee also unanimously approved the amended CTE admissions policy and revisions to meeting and agenda policies. The meeting discussed parent outreach and support for navigating high-school and CTE selection, including fairs and assistance with the online selection platform.

The committee received an update on the September cyber incident: investigators confirmed that some former and current employees’ personal information was compromised; approximately 65% of staff laptops had been securely reimaged, with more than 20,000 staff and student computers requiring reimaging. The district said it had procured IDX for credit monitoring for impacted individuals, was working with law enforcement and cybersecurity specialists, and would participate in the Commonwealth’s voluntary cybersecurity health check. No amount for the IDX purchase was stated. Student representatives also shared school activities and postsecondary preparation; no additional procurement decisions were identified in those reports.
